I think the simple answer to this is that he hasn’t played as much football in as short a space of time at any point in his professional career. He clearly looks like he needs a break from the first team, but the question is who comes in to replace him?
I wasn’t at the game (Jerome), but the comments about the toxicity of our fans surprises me not one jot. Unfortunately, I think the good start we had to the season raised expectations to the point that a sizeable chunk of our fans expect us to rock up and roll over pretty much anyone else in the league. I don’t think the turmoil created by a managerial change should be underestimated, nor that most reasonable observers had said it was a three-window job to sort previous damage. The January window is going to be an interesting time…
