We absolutely needed a second goal early in the second half to kill the game off, but it never came. When you drill down into the stats over the season so far, that isn't entirely unexpected. We have consistently been outperforming our xG, mainly thanks to outrageous goals like Leigh's from the touchline against Shrewsbury, and this chimes nicely with @oxblogger 's latest piece on regression to the mean.
In the second half yesterday, our xG was 0.03. That's woeful and shows how little an attacking threat we posed. In that regard, I wasn't overly impressed with Harris yesterday. He seems to have regressed to the player he was earlier in the season where he does a lot of work but doesn't actually look much like scoring. He also had another petulant reaction to a perceived foul by a defender. We were told after his red card against Port Vale that his reaction was very much out of character for him; yesterday hinted otherwise…
As @JonnyBiscuits says, no need for panic, but I think we do need to find a way of upping the xG. Another tough game on Tuesday night, too.
