I’m not too disheartened. Immediately after the game, I said more or less the same as Des and Greg did in their interviews, in that if we’d taken one of the four very good opportunities in the first half, that would have been a very different game as they’d have come out at us much more, and that would have created us more space. Our goal-scoring bonanza over the past few games was always going to dry up at some point. Attacking players at this level are at this level for a reason - they don’t score relentlessly. The good news is that the goal-scoring bonanza put us in a position that even though the goals dried up last night, it is still in our hands.
In the longer term, to take us to being a more complete side, we will need to learn how to use a different gear to deal a bit better with teams that set out to frustrate like Lincoln did (in the second half particularly).
Rodrigues is one of the most frustrating players we’ve had here in ages. We all know what he’s capable of and yet last night he barely managed to get the ball out from under his feet or keep control of it for more than two touches.
