Des doing the fist pump at the end felt a bit like an exorcism of the abuse, criticism, and question marks over whether he was the right man for us. He finally came of age as Oxford head coach and it was brilliant. Also, Des’ fist pumps >>>>> Mannings.
His post match interview was, probably due to emotions taking over, also more illuminating than normal. He spoke about feeling like a new step father to a family when he joined earlier in the season, an analogy that really resonated. He also spoke about ‘turbulence’ and I’m certain that we’re aware of a mere fraction of the ups and downs that group have faced over the season. Finally he admitted to being really happy as an Oxford boy and Oxford fan. Loved that.

Fans… brilliant again. Much, much credit to the yellow army for whatever they’ve done over the past few weeks to re-galvanise the fans and bring some welcome colour to proceedings.
