Yeah, that’s a bit of an issue really. Part of my job is consultation/engagement/feedback and the first thing you do when gathering equalities data is a) ensure it can’t be connected to a person’s contact details and b) reassure potential respondents them of that fact. It’s been a while since I’ve used survey monkey, but I’m not sure there’s any way the email address can be kept separate from the other answers in the way they’ve set that survey up.
People in marginalised and minority communities are much, much less likely to respond to something that would associate their personal data to their contact details too, which will distort the findings of that survey in favour of middle-age, straight, able-bodied white people.
The only reason I can see for them requiring an email address is to avoid people putting multiple responses in to deliberately try to distort the figures, and there are better ways to do that.
