It’s eye-watering stuff and I don’t tend to get too deep into this stuff because I never really fully grasp the implications.
The amount of money Ipswich went through to get promoted was insane though. Football is pretty broken and the money being lobbed around football in general feels unsustainable.
I suppose the long and short of it is that if we want to be A Top 30 Club™ (huge, huge, huge emphasis on the word “if” there) this is presumably the kind of money that would be required to lift a club like ours from our current position into that strata.
The worry is that if they don’t pull it off and eventually decide it’s no longer worth the investment and pull out, what happens then? I’m not comparing them as people, but that’s basically what Dai Yonnge did… tried to buy his way into the riches of the premier league (and was a penalty away from succeeding) and then it went to shit and he completely pulled the plug.
In a world where the stadium doesn’t get approval (or it takes a decade to get that approval, which is pretty standard for football grounds) and we keep faltering in our pursuit of promotion, our owners scaling back their investment and eventually pulling out feels like one of a number of entirely feasible outcomes.

Dunno what everyone is so worried about, the money they’re putting in demonstrates a fantastic commitment to making our football club bigger and more successful.
