brinyhoof Some twitter folk seem to think we have signed Will Vaulks. Defensive midfielder, 30 years old, Sheff Wed player of the season. Also EFL community champion of the season (or something like that) so obviously a decent fella.
TrevorAylottsHeadband brinyhoof Without wanting to be one of those ITK nobbers, I have heard this from a VERY reliable source. I also understand that the wage bill is expected to at least double to around £13m as the owners want to invest to give us the best chance of staying up.
brinyhoof TrevorAylottsHeadband good news all round. I think. My initial thought after promotion is that they wouldn’t want to risk going down again. But is this money just saddling us with more debt?
JonnyBiscuits I’m certainly keen for news, but I think that’s me being impatient. It’s still very early. Also, if we’re in for Champo quality players, I think a lot of them would be holding out for better offers before resorting to us so I think we’re likely to see us do our business a bit later than last summer. That’s our new world - we’re the little fish now.
JonnyBiscuits I reckon we’re gonna announce someone today. Can feel it in me waters. Note this is based on absolutely no inside knowledge or specific rumour or anything. Just pure psychic vibz.
brinyhoof Is it possible to make a secret surprise signing these days? Whats the point of the club’s teaser tweets, etc when everyone has been reading about us signing a player all day? And btw…
TrevorAylottsHeadband Rumours I’ve been hearing include: Kwame Poku from Peterbottlers, but £1.5m price tag seen as a bit steep Karamoko Dembélé from Brest/Blackpool for around £500k Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield for £1m, but WBA, Millwall and Nantes also interested
brinyhoof Surely after all these years and finally gaining promotion Cam stays with us? I guess wages will be a factor but he’s done pretty well out of us compared to his team mates. Maybe though he sees our new stacked midfield and decides he’s no longer the big carp in a small pond? Anyway, I very much want him to stay, obvs.
Bspittles brinyhoof Want him to stay, but also want him to sign a new contract. I’d hate to lose him for free in 12 months.
TrevorAylottsHeadband Bspittles Agree with this. I’d be fairly confident that he won’t leave this close season, but once next summer rolls around… That said, the first half of the season may show that it’s too big a step up for him and/or our new recruits are a better option. He was on a sizeable contract already (c.£12k/wk) and would have got a promotion increase so, in that situation, I doubt the club will be offering megabucks for him to stay.
