Yeah, we discussed that recently too. We’ve only worn the third kit twice too. Over the summer I think some of the usual grumbling from traditionalists gained a bit of traction - they were saying that our colours are yellow and blue and that we should wear that unless there’s a clash. That might be coincidence and nothing to do with the decision, of course, but I do remember remarking about the increase in those grumbles. I’m not a traditionalist on that front… I think if you’re asking people to shell out fifty quid for away shirts, you have to play in them enough to justify that purchase. Also, if you wear yellow and you’re only ever going to change the two or three times a season there’s a colour clash, you absolutely do NOT need two away shirts.

In fairness to the club, the number of away games where the hosts wear red or (significant amounts of) black is very high. Only Wigan sport neither colour.

There only two fixtures remaining where the home team wear red, so I suspect we will see it make enough appearances to ensure the club swerve a fine.

It’s clearly been the least popular kit with fans this year, given its inclusion in the recent sale.

Fair points, though there’s defo been a noticeable shift in the number of times we’ve worn any kind of away kit this season. Maybe there haven’t been enough opportunities to wear the red… and the team don’t like the blue perhaps?

I prefer to see us in yellow where ever possible. It’s our colour and I’m pleased that we’ve worn it more this season.

I don’t buy the kits, so I’ve got no skin in the game, but does their lack of use make you regret your purchase?

Admittedly though I pretty much immediately regretted my decision to buy this season’s - I have the blue one and I bought it on impulse because I got carried away with the excitement of being at the kit launch party thing. I think I was regretting it while I was actually in the process of buying it.

Thought I’d test the theory that in recent years we’ve been wearing the away kits more, and that we’ve been wearing them less this season. Here’s a chart of how many times we’ve worn an away kit of any description both at this point of the season, and in total at the end of the season.

Definitely an uptick in the last couple of seasons and a drop this season, but it’s not unprecedentedly low this season. The gigantic spike in away kit usage was the season we had the mostly-blue-stripey kit, which presumably clashed with everything under the sun.

Also, an interesting side note is the stats back up the suggestion that KR liked white kits. In the three seasons under him that we had three kits and one of them was white, we wore the white kit more than the other away kit. And in two of those, the white kit was the third kit.

I must admit, I’m ambivalent about how often the change kits get worn. I imagine the majority of people are buying kits as a way of showing support generally, and having home/away/third kits simply gives a degree of choice in that. I can’t imagine that there will be many who will moan that they have bought an away kit and it’s only getting worn a couple of times a year.
